Contributions

Selian Lutheran Hospital derives 25 percent of its annual budget from contributions by individuals, churches and other organizations. Without these contributions SLH would not be able to continue its service to the poor of Tanzania. Contributions may be made to Selian's general fund or to specific programs (see 'Special Services' section of this website).

A $3,500 contribution will operate the hospital and clinics for a day, including all costs for 100 inpatients, five or six major operations, 150 outpatient visits, 30 x-ray studies, and over 200 laboratory tests, plus pay salaries, electricity, and overhead!

A $600 contribution will pay for 3 children to have surgery to correct the leg deformities of skeletal fluorosis.

A $100 contribution will purchase basic immunizations for 20 children.

All contributions, designated or undesignated, are used for direct patient care.

Several organizations in the United States directly support Selian Lutheran Hospital and they all pass through 100% of contributions without deducting overhead fees. Contributions made through these organizations to the Selian General Fund or to any of the Selian special services funds are deductible as charitable contributions for tax purposes in the United States.
